Humber Inter-School Games Tournament

Humber Inter-School Games Tournament

On July 14th, we hosted our very first Humber Inter-School Games Tournament. The event took place at Holderness Academy & Sixth Form College, nestled in the scenic village of Preston, just six miles east of Hull.

Students transitioning into Year 7 at this fantastic Academy quickly become part of the Holderness family. Today, our visiting schools were in for a special experience, as they were warmly welcomed into this exceptional school. We sincerely thank Holderness Academy for opening their doors and extending such a gracious welcome to all our participants.

The Primary Schools competing in this event were:

Keyringham Primary School
Inmans Primary School
Hedon Primary School
Preston Primary School

The day was filled with joy and camaraderie. Pupils began by working together in their school teams, familiarising themselves with the games and sharing strategies to outsmart their opponents. The games were designed to be both fun and educational, incorporating elements of maths, literacy, shapes, and reflex-based challenges. They aligned perfectly with Imagination Gaming’s ethos of ‘easy to learn’ and ‘quick to play.’

The visiting schools enjoyed themselves immensely throughout the morning!

After lunch, all teams faced off in the tournament and the competition was fierce. The event was incredibly close, culminating in a tie between Ehan R. from Keyringham Primary and Jacob F. from Inman’s Primary. The winner was decided in a tense playoff, where every move was silent except for the sound of anticipation …a truly nail-biting finish.  Check out some of the videos of the tense playoff here:

In addition to enhancing academic skills, tabletop gaming plays a vital role in building students’ confidence and social skills. As they navigate through gameplay, students learn to communicate effectively, collaborate with teammates, and think critically under pressure. This interactive environment encourages them to express their ideas and solutions, fostering a sense of belonging and teamwork. Furthermore, as they face challenges and experience both wins and losses, students develop resilience and a growth mindset. Such experiences not only boost their self-esteem but also prepare them to tackle real-world challenges with a positive, can-do attitude.

Our tournaments are a great alternative to sporty events; we refer to them as our “Mind Sport Competitions”

An event where pupils can grow both personally and academically, laying a strong foundation for their future endeavours.

Congratulations to Inman’s Primary School Team 3, who emerged victorious with an outstanding 46 points. WELL DONE!

We eagerly look forward to more events in the future, especially after receiving so much positive feedback from both staff and students.
