Exciting Inter-School Tournament at AireCon X

Exciting Inter-School Tournament at AireCon X

On Friday 14th March 2025, we had the pleasure of hosting an exhilarating inter-school tournament at the AireCon convention in Harrogate, where students from various schools came together to engage in friendly competition and learning through tabletop games.

The day began with an informative morning session, where both primary and secondary students learned the tabletop games that would be featured in the tournament. From strategy to creativity, each game offered valuable lessons in mathematics, literacy, problem-solving, and teamwork. This foundational knowledge not only prepared the participants for the tournament but also highlighted the educational benefits of tabletop gaming. Students eagerly practiced their skills, helping each other to grasp the rules and strategies involved.

In addition to enhancing academic skills, tabletop gaming plays a vital role in building students’ confidence and social skills. As they navigate through gameplay, students learn to communicate effectively, collaborate with teammates, and think critically under pressure. This interactive environment encourages them to express their ideas and solutions, fostering a sense of belonging and teamwork. Furthermore, as they face challenges and experience both wins and losses, students develop resilience and a growth mindset. Such experiences not only boost their self-esteem but also prepare them to tackle real-world challenges with a can-do attitude. Overall, tabletop gaming creates a supportive space where students can grow personally and academically, setting a solid foundation for their future endeavours.

After a well-deserved lunch, the tournament kicked off with excitement in the air! Teams from different schools squared off, showcasing their skills and applying what they had learned in the morning session. It was inspiring to witness students not only compete for the title but also support one another throughout the challenges. We celebrated the overall winners and top scorers, recognising their hard work, dedication, and sportsmanship.

Towards the end of the day, participants had the opportunity to explore the rest of the convention, discovering various other gaming activities. It was a joy to see every student engaged and enjoying themselves, even when faced with challenges. Every participant left with the accomplishment of having learned four new games and gaining valuable experience by entering a tournament.

At Imagination Gaming, we are passionate about incorporating tabletop games into the classroom. We believe that these games can significantly enhance student learning, encourage critical thinking, and foster social skills.
