Our Top 5 Game Picks this Christmas

It's that time of year again, and what's better than grabbing something new to play with the family after your turkey and stuffing?

Here, we will give you our top 5 games for you to try out this Christmas; ones that are fun (of course!) and ones that you can enjoy with the whole family. Do you agree with our list? If not, what games would you put in your top 5?!

1. In a Bind Jnr

If you've got a lot to do on Christmas day and you feel like you can't commit a great deal of time to games, this one is definitely worth a try. A hilarious game of drawing a card, reading it aloud and doing what it says! Each card has an instruction, e.g., "one finger touching ear", "this card on a shoulder", or "whenever you draw, trumpet like an elephant". If you forget to do one of these instructions (or can't), you get a warning; three warnings and you lose the game!

2. Race to the North Pole

Okay, so you've finished your massive Christmas Dinner, you've had your afternoon nap and now you're ready for something a little more involved! Race to the North Pole is a fantastic and very pretty looking game. Each player has an expedition team which they have to navigate to the North Pole on the middle of the game board. The first player to get all of his or her pawns there wins the game. The game is played by moving with cards that are in front of you. Some cards allow movement while other card allow ambushing your opponents... oh, and watch out for the polar bears!

3. A Dog's Life

Really want a dog for Christmas this year but know full well you're not going to get one? (Yes, us too...) Well here's the next best thing! These dogs aren't used to taking care of themselves; they need you, your family, and your friends to care for them! You have to decide when your dog needs to beg in restaurants for that left over bone, fight rival hounds, piddle on lamp posts or search through the rubbish. If you do it right, your dog could be the first to bury 3 bones in his den and win the game!

4. Hop!

A fantastically silly game, perfect for a family get together! Climb cloud to cloud in order to be the first to reach the top of the sky. Each challenge you face is another chance to rise higher in the sky, but helping other players also earns you rewards... to play the game, you have to complete the challenges presented to you on each card. Whether you are successful or not, the game is hilarious - even the team enjoyed a game of this one at UK Games Expo - any excuse to be a bit silly!

5. Anomia

Our minds are usually brimming with all sorts of random information: how many pigs in blankets you'll pile on your plate, the last Christmas song you heard, etc... Under normal circumstances, it's easy to give an example of a frozen food or a dog breed, but you'll find that your brain works a little differently under pressure (or after Gran has had a couple of glasses of Sherry)! To play, draw and reveal a card from the pile. Does the symbol on your card match one on another player's card? If so, you must quickly face-off with the other player by giving an example of the person, place, or thing on his card before he can do the same for yours. If you blurt out a correct answer first, you win his card and the drawing continues. A great one to end Christmas Day this year!
