Airecon: It’s so good to be back….

Group of many children at Airecon Game event

Our last major game event was Airecon just before lockdown and you could sense the excitement to be back 2 years on. Such a joy to return to this beautiful town and this friendliest of gaming events.

Our mission has always been to run a welcoming Family Zone inclusive for all. An area where gamers can find something to play but also give people with little or no gaming experience an opportunity to find the perfect game to launch a new hobby.

With a big range of themed games to cater for the gamers through to more educational and family orientated games, we had something for everyone! So many games to play and enjoy with willing staff to help and advise.

Such a delight to be back, to see lots of familiar faces and to meet lots of new ones.

On Friday we launched our zone with an Inter-School Games Tournament. A friendly competition and a wonderful opportunity for schools in the area to come together and compete in an environment that nurtures cooperation between not only team-mates, but between opponents too. A competition consisting of four rounds across four different games.

The games we used were Rat-A-Tat Cat, from Gamewright games, Bananagrams from Bananagrams Inc, Jungle Speed from Zygo-matic and Word on the Street by Educational Insights. Each of the games brought something a little different and had all players thinking and working things out in a slightly different way. Testing basic maths and literacy skills, incorporating a little bit of teamwork and some quick reactions were also required. The school children of Harrogate were unfazed!

A whole morning was spent practising the games which meant that the afternoon and the tournament itself was met with relaxed confidence. The enjoyment stepped up a level and it was a joy to see so many children in one big space laughing and thinking in equal measure.

Thank you to all of the schools involved on the day…

With certificates, winners trophies as well as some game giveaways, the competition was a day filled with lots of smiles and laughter.

The schools also had time out to wander around the event and see many other games that were on show from a number of exhibitors.

A huge thank you to the crew at Airecon for believing in what we do here at Imagination Gaming and allowing us to host the tournament within the venue.

Thank you also to all the exhibitors that came over just to say how nice it was to see all the children gaming happily and creating an amazing atmosphere to launch the event.

2022 has been another great year for Airecon and we are confident this event will grow bigger and bigger in years to come!
