Designed by Rory, aged 9, The Forest Dragon is a fun game of testing your luck and risking everything on the turn of a card.
Dare you explore the forest? It's full of things you need, and there is treasure to be found. But beware! The forest is also full of monsters!
Will you meet the Forest Dragon? Will you have a sword in your hand when you do?
Will you find a Golden Coins, a Witch Bottle, or just some Acorns?
Will you encounter an Adder Crow, the Bandit King, or a Hungry Ghost?
Here's what the creators of The Forest Dragon had to say:
1. What does the game involve?
A forest of cards is laid out on the table, and players take it in turn to push their luck and see how many valuable items they can collect from the Forest. If they meet a monster their goes ends, and they might lose some of their treasures. But if they’ve found a sword, bow or helmet they can fight off attack!
2. What skills can you build/gain from the game?
Assessing risk, maths, strategic thinking and impulse control. Not that anyone can manage to stop turning cards!
3. What's your favourite tactic or are there any tricks you can teach us?
Stop one card turn sooner than you think. Get the bow. Play with the Quest Givers Expansion – it’s amazing.
4. Do you have any funny/heartwarming stories about a game of The Forest Dragon?
One of our playtesters who is also 9 got so excited exploring the forest we invented a special rule for him – Isaac’s Rule, whereby if you keep ending games with no points you get a piece of equipment for the next game to help you out. Also, world famous game designer Francesco Nepitello (The War of the Ring) gave us a special rule! That was pretty awesome.
